Finding the right amount for your animal depends on more than weight alone. Size, individual sensitivity, the reason you are using CBD, and the level of support your animal needs can all play a role.

Because every animal responds differently, there is no single dose that works for everyone. Our dosing recommendations are intended to give you a comfortable starting point. From there, you can gradually adjust as needed while watching your animal’s response.

We offer several strengths so you can choose the product that best fits your animal and situation.

FINDING THE RIGHT DOSAGE

Calming & Mobility Support

Our calming blends can be incorporated into an everyday wellness routine or used for specific situations such as:

• Trailering or traveling
• New environments
• Competitions and events
• Visitors or changes in routine
• Grooming, farrier visits, or other stressful situations

Start with the recommended amount for your animal’s size and needs and allow enough time to observe the response before increasing.

If you are not seeing the support you were hoping for, gradually adjust the amount or consider moving to a higher-strength product.

We highly recommend keeping a simple dosing journal. Write down the product, amount given, time administered, situation, and your animal’s response. This makes it much easier to determine what works best the next time.

CBD may cause drowsiness in some animals, particularly at higher amounts. Always monitor your animal when introducing a new product or increasing the amount.

CBD HORSE TREATS

Regular Strength Horse Treats — 25 mg Per Treat

Our Regular Strength Horse Treats are a great place to start and work well for many horses.

Begin with 1–2 treats depending on your horse’s size, breed, individual sensitivity, and the level of support needed.

For situational use, we recommend giving the treats approximately 30–45 minutes before the event whenever possible.

If, after approximately 45–60 minutes, you feel your horse needs additional support, the amount can be gradually increased.

Larger horses or horses experiencing a more challenging situation may require more than smaller or naturally calmer horses.

If you consistently find yourself using four or more Regular Strength treats at one time, our Dragon Treats may be a more convenient option.

Dragon Horse Treats — 100 mg Per Treat

Dragon Treats contain four times the CBD of our Regular Strength Horse Treats.

They were created for horses that need a higher-strength option, including horses that become especially excited or unsettled during competition, hauling, training, or other high-energy situations.

They are also a convenient choice for the more anxious horses or horses requiring a greater amount without feeding several individual treats.

As with any CBD product, begin conservatively and adjust based on your horse’s individual response.

CBD OIL DOSING GUIDE

These recommendations are intended as general starting points. Individual animals may require more or less depending on their size, sensitivity, and needs.

200 mg CBD Oil

Extra Small Dogs & Cats — Under 20 lbs

Regular Starting Amount:
½ dropper twice daily = approximately 3.3 mg per dose

Higher Strength Amount:
1 full dropper twice daily = approximately 6.6 mg per dose

400 mg CBD Oil

Small to Medium Dogs — Approximately 20–75 lbs

Regular Starting Amount:
½ dropper twice daily = approximately 6.6 mg per dose

Higher Strength Amount:
1 full dropper twice daily = approximately 13.3 mg per dose

800 mg CBD Oil

Larger Dogs — Approximately 75–150 lbs

Regular Starting Amount:
½ dropper twice daily = approximately 13.3 mg per dose

Higher Strength Amount:
1 full dropper twice daily = approximately 26.6 mg per dose

1500 mg CBD Oil

For Horses

Regular Starting Amount:
½ dropper twice daily = approximately 25 mg per dose

IMPORTANT CAUTION

CBD may cause drowsiness or sedation in some animals, particularly at higher amounts.

Safe use in pregnant animals or animals intended for breeding has not been established.

If your animal’s condition worsens, you notice an unexpected reaction, or you have concerns about using CBD alongside medications or other supplements, discontinue use and consult your veterinarian.

A veterinary examination is recommended before beginning any new supplement program, particularly for animals with existing medical conditions or those taking prescription medications.

WHY WE USE A COCONUT OIL BASE

What Is a CBD Carrier Oil?

CBD extract is highly concentrated and naturally thick, which makes it difficult to measure and administer on its own.

A carrier oil allows the CBD extract to be evenly diluted into a liquid that can be measured accurately and given easily.

Common carrier oils include coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, and other food-grade oils.

Sticky Frog Wellness uses fractionated coconut oil because it creates a smooth, easy-to-use product with a mild taste that animals generally accept well.

Carrier oils serve several important purposes:

1. Easier Dosing

CBD extract is extremely concentrated after extraction. Diluting it into a carrier oil makes it possible to accurately measure different amounts for animals of different sizes and needs.

2. Improved Absorption

CBD is fat-soluble, meaning it is absorbed more efficiently when consumed with fats. Using a carrier oil helps deliver CBD in a form the body can readily process.

3. Easier Administration

Concentrated hemp extract can be thick and difficult to administer. A carrier oil creates a smoother, more palatable product that can be given directly or added to food.

DIFFERENT WAYS TO ADMINISTER CBD

There are several ways to give CBD to animals. The best method depends on your animal’s preferences and your daily routine.

1. CBD Oil

Direct Oral Administration

Use the dropper to place the oil gently into the side of your animal’s mouth.

Added to Food

CBD oil can also be added directly to your animal’s normal food or placed on a favorite treat.

This is often the easiest option for animals that do not enjoy having a dropper placed in their mouth.

2. CBD Treats

Pre-measured treats are one of the easiest and most convenient ways to give CBD.

Because each treat contains a specific amount, they make dosing simple and are especially convenient when traveling, competing, trailering, or away from home.

3. CBD Topicals

CBD-infused balms, creams, and other topical products are applied directly to the skin for localized use.

Always use products specifically formulated for animals and prevent licking when directed by the product manufacturer.

4. CBD-Infused Foods & Toppers

Some CBD products can be incorporated into pet-safe food toppers, treats, or other flavored products.

These can be useful for animals that are difficult to dose with oils.

DAILY VS. SITUATIONAL USE

CBD can generally be approached in two different ways: as part of a consistent daily wellness routine or for occasional situational support.

Daily / Supplemental Use

Daily use is intended to provide consistent support over time.

The amount is generally given on a regular schedule, often once or twice daily depending on the product and the individual animal.

Daily use may be considered for animals whose owners are looking for ongoing support with:

WHICH APPROACH IS BEST?
