WHERE TO START

The world of CBD can be a little overwhelming. Sticky Frog CBD is here to make it easy.

CBD is dosed not just by weight of the animal but also by their symptoms they are experiencing and the severity of the symptom.

We have created several blends to help your pet. We call them regular strength and extra strength. CBD isn't an exact science. Like other supplements, different dosages will be required for different symptoms and weight of the animal.

FINDING THE BEST DOSAGE

CALMING & MOBILITY BLENDS

Our calming blends can be used for everyday anxiety management and also situational events, such as guests visiting for holidays or going for a car ride/trailing ride.

Below we have listed the "Starting" point for the proper milligrams dosage for the weight of the animal and the severity of the symptom. If you do not see the results you were hoping for, up the dosage to Extra Strength and go from there. Keep a journal of the dosing for future reference. Your animal cannot Over Dose. The worst symptom would be very very sleepy animal. They will just sleep it off.  CBD is like Vitamin C, any unused CBD will be urinated out of the body.

WHY A COCONUT OIL BASE

What is a CBD carrier oil?

CBD "oil" on its own is a thick hard honey type substance that makes it impossible to use by itself. It needs a carrier oil to help dilute/dispense. A carrier oil such as Coconut oil, Olive Oil or Avocado Oil, soaks into the blood stream for over all health and body balance.

Sticky Frog uses Fractionated Coconut Oil for the best absorption and the pleasant taste animals love.

The CBD needs to be diluted by a carrier oil for three reasons.

  1. Ease of dosage: In the process of extraction, the concentration of CBD becomes very high. Since being able to alter dosage between animals is so important, by diluting the extract it’s much easier to measure your daily dose.
  2. Bioavailability: CBD is best absorbed after binding with fat molecules that their body finds it easier to break down. Carrier oils increase the bioavailability of the hemp compounds i.e. the amount their body can process.
  3. Ease of intake: Put simply, ingesting purified CBD oil isn’t the most pleasant experience. By using a carrier oil, such as coconut oil, the whole process becomes much more pleasant.

DIFFERENT WAYS TO ADMINISTER

CBD can be administered to animals in several ways, depending on the pet's preferences and the owner's convenience. Here are the most common methods:

1. CBD Oil/Tinctures (Sublingual or Mixed with Food)

  • Direct Oral Administration: Use a dropper to place CBD oil directly into the pet’s mouth, ideally under the tongue for faster absorption.

  • Mixed with Food: If direct administration is difficult, mix the oil with wet food or a treat.

2. CBD Treats

  • Available as pre-dosed soft chews, biscuits, or flavored treats.

  • A convenient and tasty option for pets who dislike the taste of CBD oil.

4. CBD-Infused Topicals (Creams, Balms, or Sprays)

  • Best for localized issues such as joint pain, inflammation, or skin conditions.

  • Applied directly to the skin, paws, or affected area.

5. CBD-Infused Peanut Butter or Other Edibles

  • Special pet-friendly CBD peanut butter or food toppers are available.

  • A tasty way to encourage consumption.

Supplemental Vs. Situational

When using CBD oil or Treats, you can approach it in two primary ways:

Supplemental Use (Daily/Long-Term)

  • Goal: Maintain overall wellness, manage chronic conditions, or support bodily functions over time. Good for help with arthritis, injury or other chronic condition that effect an animals health everyday.

  • Dosage: Usually lower, taken consistently (e.g., 10-50mg per day).

  • Best For:

    • Chronic pain & inflammation (arthritis, fibromyalgia)

    • Sleep regulation (insomnia, circadian rhythm)

    • General well-being & homeostasis

    • Anxiety & stress management

  • Effect: Builds up in the system over time, leading to cumulative benefits.

Situational Use (As-Needed)

  • Goal: Address immediate symptoms or specific situations.

  • Dosage: Often higher or varied based on need (e.g., 20-100mg for acute relief).

  • Best For:

    • Highly anxious due to stressful situations(trailer loading, new venues or situations)

    • Immediate pain relief (muscle soreness, minor injury)

    • Sleep aid (when struggling on a particular night)

    • Recovery from exercise or injury

  • Effect: Faster onset but shorter duration;  Treats are best for on the go.

Which Is Better?

It depends on your needs. Supplemental use is great for chronic issues, while situational use is ideal for occasional relief. Some people combine both—taking CBD daily but increasing the dose when needed.

IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE WORKING

CBD doesn’t always work for everyone or in every situation, and there are several reasons why:

Metabolic

  • Some people or animals just do not respond to CBD.

Dosage Issues

  • Too Low: Many people start with too little CBD and don’t give it time to take effect. Finding the right dose is often a trial-and-error process.

  • Too High: Taking an excessive amount can actually be less effective due to the biphasic nature of CBD (where low and high doses can have different effects).

2. Method of Consumption

  • Sublingual (under the tongue): Works well, but if swallowed too soon, much of it is lost in digestion.

  • Edibles/Capsules: Take longer to work (30-90 mins) and may have weaker effects due to liver metabolism.

  • Vaping/Inhalation: Fastest-acting but not long-lasting.

  • Topicals: Good for localized relief but won’t affect overall issues like anxiety or sleep.

3. Low-Quality or Incorrect Product

  • Poor Extraction Methods: Some products lack enough active CBD due to poor extraction.

  • Isolate vs. Full-Spectrum: Full-spectrum CBD contains other cannabinoids (like small amounts of THC) that enhance effectiveness through the "entourage effect."

  • Not Enough CBD: Some brands underreport the CBD content, meaning you’re getting less than advertised.
